It’s truly amazing. This is why I still get excited about Skype.

I had to change an Amtrak reservation I made online earlier today. The problem is, I had to do it by phone. And like many other large corporations, Amtrak can only be reached through a 1-800 number – one I cannot dial from my phone line here in Germany.

So I did a quick google search and who is on top? This Skype blog entry which tells me I can make calls to a toll free number in the US from anywhere in the world – using Skype!

Alas, I hadn’t even had to dial the number, just copy & paste it. And the quality was so good, the voice computer clearly understood everything I said. Only Alice, the human operator on the other end of the line had some trouble understanding my spelling. Which I would rather attribute to pronounciation issues.
